Dangerous Drugs - Motrin
Motrin is an over-the-counter pain reliever with a subset dosage known as Children's Motrin. The family of a 7-year-old girl sued the maker of the drug, McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals, a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary, after it caused an allergic reaction which eventually led to her blindness. The suit states the child suffered from Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS), a potentially fatal rash of the skin which can lead to blindness and other symptoms.
Additional cases of SJS resulting from Motrin use may exist. Cases of Motrin causing severe side effects often go underreported to the FDA since the reporting system is voluntary.
