Dangerous Drugs - Natrecor
Natrecor was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001 to treat a rare but severe heart condition known as decompensated heart failure. It is one of few treatments for the condition. The drug bears a warning on its label regarding the potential for kidney damage.
A study published in April 2005 asserted that Natrecor users suffered a higher death rate than cardiac patients on other treatments such as diuretics and vasodilators. The data was based on three Natrecor trials in which patients exhibited an increased risk of death within the first month after the initial use of the treatment. The deaths were the result of renal failure.
